Teachers
Our teachers bring together expertise in marine biology, history, and Spanish, along with deep experience working with high school students. Throughout the program, they guide main lessons, field activities, and cultural experiences—supporting each student with care, safety, and meaningful learning.
Juan Pablo Barillas
Juan Pablo Barillas is a pioneering Waldorf teacher in Guatemala and a founding teacher at Colegio Waldorf Guatemala. He has extensive experience teaching a wide range of middle and high school subjects and helping build bilingual (English–Spanish) learning programs. He also contributes to Waldorf teacher education through the Great Lakes Waldorf Institute and Waldorf en Español.
Niek A.H. Slooter
Niek A.H. Slooter is a Dutch Waldorf educator with a strong science background in biology. He has over 15 years of experience teaching grades 7–12, bringing hands-on, inquiry-based learning to biology and related sciences. He also supports Waldorf education through teacher workshops and student projects.
Ana Isabel Barrios
Ana Isabel Barrios is a science teacher, mother, and experienced educator with nearly twenty years of teaching high school students. She is a certified Waldorf teacher and co-founder of the online academy Waldorf en Español. As a chaperone for the Guatemala program, she is excited to support students while they explore the culture, nature, and communities of this beautiful country.
